Outside of being a nuisance, mosquitoes are known to carry diseases such as West Nile, Zika, Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dengue, Filariasis, and can cause Encephalitis. Be-cause of this, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that everyone do their part to control mosquitoes in the home, common areas (such as parks), and throughout the community.

Pest’R Us recommends an Integrated Mosquito Management plan:

1. Know how your local municipality controls the mosquito population. They may treat areas known to have an abundance of mosquitoes. Especially important if these areas are in proximity of your home.

2. Be aware of areas around your home that can harbor mosquitoes and where they can lay eggs; such as: clogged rain gutters, old tires, buckets, planters, toys, pools, birdbaths, flower pot saucers, trash containers, etc. Empty objects that collect water on a weekly basis to hinder mosquito reproduction.

3. Call Pest’R Us to apply a mosquito barrier. This will reduce the number of mosquitoes and the risk of anyone getting sick. This treatment will address the adult mosquitoes, eggs, larvae, and pupae.

Did you know:
Mosquitoes rest in the dark, humid areas like under patio furniture, or under the carport or garage. It takes about 7-10 days for an egg to develop into an adult mosquito. Although they are not great flyers, they can fly up to a mile from water sources. Top-feeding minnows in ornamental pools will eat the larvae (goldfish offer little if any control).

Important: If using over the counter insecticide sprays to kill mosquitoes (or any insects or bugs), always follow the label instructions.
